Is gold cheaper in one city than another?

No – the raw price per gram is identical across the Kingdom (today 22K = 36.685 KWD, 21K = 35.017 KWD). What differs is the making charge, the shop's margin and the design. Big souqs with many competing shops, such as those in Kuwait City and Hawalli & Salmiya, usually offer the best making charges.

Souq or mall?

Traditional gold souqs have more shops and more room to negotiate the making charge; mall showrooms offer brands, designs and warranties at a higher price. Whichever you choose, ask for an itemised invoice showing karat, weight, making charge.
