How Much Gold Can You Carry from Kuwait to India? Customs Guide
By Editorial team ·

Buying gold in Kuwait before a trip home is common, because Kuwait has no VAT on gold and prices follow the international rate closely. Before you fly, check what Indian customs allows.
Duty-free allowance (Indian Baggage Rules)
Under the Indian Baggage Rules, a passenger who has lived abroad for more than one year may bring gold jewellery duty-free up to 20 grams (value cap ₹50,000) for men and 40 grams (value cap ₹1,00,000) for women. Gold bars and coins do not get this allowance and attract customs duty. Rules and values are revised from time to time, so check the latest CBIC notice before travelling.
Carrying more than the allowance
- Declare the gold at the red channel on arrival.
- Pay the applicable duty in foreign currency or as instructed by customs.
- Undeclared gold can be seized and penalised.
Documents to keep
- The original invoice from the Kuwaiti shop showing weight, karat and price.
- Your passport and residency proof for the time spent abroad.
